Forever in Our Hearts

Amaris was our little Turkish scrappy “bear” who used to energetically play with our other Turkey dog “Barley”. As the years passed, she faced several health challenges that took away her hearing and mobility, but not her warm heart and soul. Up to her very last day, her loving eyes just held us tight to her.

Barley came from Rise, Turkey as a Pilgrim, and without any previous training he achieved formal certification as a Canine Good Citizen and as a Certified Therapy Dog! REMARKABLE! He was unassuming but was nevertheless always the center of attention. He was loving, loyal and unforgettable. He will always remain in our hearts!

We adopted Summer from GRRI-NJ on December 2, 2013. She had been returned to rescue through no fault of her own. It was love at first sight. She got along with our other Golden and fit right in to our household. We kept her on the weight loss plan her foster home had put her on. The extra pounds just melted off and she had the best life ever. In the short 3 years we had her, she loved the shore and going anywhere we were headed. Summer always had a smile on her face. My favorite memory is when she picked a stuffed toy off a garbage pile, carried it for our entire mile walk and always took care of him. We are blessed to have been chosen for her forever home.

Abby was adopted from GRRI-NJ on April 12, 2011. She passed away on May 25, 2018. Abby was a beloved member of our family who brought smiles and comfort to many including those in a nursing home and in-home hospice. She was an angel.

We were fortunate enough to adopt two Golden Retrievers through GRRI.

The first was Austin who we adopted in 2013. He was by far the biggest Golden any of us (including our Vet) had ever seen. However, he was a big mush head and loved to play. Unfortunately, he crossed the Rainbow bridge in 2015 which is when Lola, a Turkey Golden entered our lives.

Lola came with some issues (dealing with other dogs, loud noises scared her and she loved to spot jets and jet con trails in the sky which she would bark at, we thought as some sort of a warning). However, she was wonderful with our grandchildren and loved to meet people on our walks. She crossed the Rainbow bridge in 2022 and left a large hole in our hearts. Our experience, working with GRRI has been exceptional and though we prefer to rescue older Goldens and therefore do not get to spend many years with them we would not trade the time we have had with our rescued Pups for a different experience.
